What is “success” to you?
I remember a time, ailment not that very many years ago, store when I defined success by my bank account. It was completely acceptable in my mind to blow off family and friends in favour of working on a project – I was building my business, right?
Over the past couple of years, that has begun to change. Much of the reason is the quality of people that have been fortunate to add to our team as JR and I first created our partnership and then expanded the business. We all know we can count on one another, and we encourage each other to focus on the important things in life. Certainly, our noses go to the grindstone for our clients, but it’s because we care about them – not because of the bottom line.
The past few weeks epitomized what success means to me now.
When I shared with the team that my aunt was battling a very quickly progressing cancer, they sent me out the door and promised to take care of things. The battle was shorter than any of us could have imagined, but they understood when I wanted to stay with my cousins for a bit longer, after our family had laid Aunty to rest and celebrated her life. And, as we’ve set the business up on a remote-office model, I was still able to lend them a hand once in awhile.
And I can hardly wait. It’s way past time for a break, treat methinks. Thank goodness The Farmer’s Trophy Wife posted her packing plans to get me in gear on mine! We don’t fly for a week, sale but I’m leaving home on Thursday and had better have all my shtuff together before then, or it just ain’t gonna happen. Not that it would hurt my feelings to have to shop for a new wardrobe in Vegas…
I’m thinking I’ll wear this to travel:
And pack this:
But Suzie made a good point about wearing a pair of the tall boots on the plane so they don’t take up space in my luggage, so that may change plans slightly. I’m just so dang in love with my new TH booties!
